From our good friends at The Rahus Institute:

Greetings Sonoma County Educators!

Our friends at Sonoma Clean Power have offered 2 scholarships for local Sonoma County Teachers to attend our summer workshop, held in Sebastopol.  This includes all project and classroom materials for you and your classroom.

Here is the information about the 2016 Solar Schoolhouse Summer Institute for Educators... We realize you're in the midst of end of school year activities, but if you're interested, please do take a moment to fill out the application and send it our way ASAP.   Please also share with interested colleagues.

Educators attending this summer seminar (our 14th annual!) will learn about the science and history of heating, cooling and powering our homes with the Sun. Participants will build solar cookers, model passive solar homes, solar electric fountains, a solar powered emergency kit,  conduct energy audits – and tailor lessons for your classroom situation.. We will conduct the seminar at carbon-neutral Rahus Institute, a solar powered work/live facility & workshop located in Sebastopol. In addition to learning the science of proper building design (e.g. thermodynamics, electricity, seasonal changes) and how to fit these exercises into your curriculum, participants will walk away with practical knowledge that they can apply in their own lives. Integrating solar energy education into your curriculum can provide an element of excitement and hope for the future.

Materials provided include: Solar Cell Classroom Set, Solar Fountain Sculpture Set, 15 Watt Solar Module, project materials for Solar Notebook Charger, Model Solar Home, solar cooker (pizza box or variation), Solar Art (etching, clay), and Curriculum (Teaching SolarYour Solar Home, Solar Decathlon, more).  Curriculum and activities are Common Core and NGSS aligned.

We've posted the details online  for July 24-29th. here in Sebastopol.
Scholarship applicants should fill out and submit the online application ASAPincluding a narrative on how they anticipate using the experience in their own classrooms.

Looking forward,
